Abbeycroft Leisure has been a proud partner of Ormiston Sudbury Academy since July 2013 and enjoyed working with them to manage Sudbury Sports Centre for community use.
It is therefore with great sadness that we announce that Sudbury Sports Centre will be closing to the community from the 31st August 2021.
Ormiston Sudbury Academy has taken the decision not to renew the contract with Abbeycroft Leisure, as they are reflecting on how best to support the PE/sport/fitness curriculum within the Academy, whilst potentially offering community use of their sports facilities in the future.
Warren Smyth, chief executive at Abbeycroft said:
“As a not-for-profit social enterprise, our ambition is to work within our local community to offer excellent services and facilities and we’ve truly enjoyed building a strong relationship with the academy during this time. So naturally, we are extremely disappointed with this decision, however, we do fully appreciate that the Academy wants to reflect on how they best serve the community going forward. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for all their hard work and the customers for their continued loyalty.
Caroline Wilson, Principal at Ormiston Sudbury Academy added:
“As the contract has come to a natural end with Abbeycroft and whilst we are still recovering from the pandemic, this is a suitable time for us to reflect on the needs of the Academy and consider options for the future.”
Abbeycroft are directly informing all their customers and hirers of the Academy’s decision to close and we will be working with those customers and other partners to try and find alternative venues for their activity.
