Construction of the Mildenhall Hub has reached another milestone, with the completion of the first phase of steel framework for the multi-million project.
The framework will form part of the state-of-the-art hub, which is set to be a national exemplar, bringing together a number of operational services to provide easier access to better facilities and to support the local community.
These initial steel structures follow the successful completion of the foundation and enabling works earlier this year. Once completed, the hub will also be home to a new school, leisure centre, health centre, town library, Job Centre, Citizens’ Advice Bureau, children’s centre as well as office space for police and council staff.

The £39m contract for the construction of the Mildenhall Hub was awarded to R G Carter by the project partners earlier this year.
R G Carter gave a site tour to West Suffolk Councillor Joanna Rayner, along with Alex Wilson, Director at West Suffolk Council; Lois Wreathall, Head of Primary Care at West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group; and Kate Ashton, Executive Library Manager from Suffolk Libraries. This enabled some of the partners in the project to see first-hand how it is taking shape and to gain a first glimpse of the space in which their new facilities will be housed.
Richard Groom, Senior Project Manager at R G Carter said: “This is the latest milestone in the creation of this innovative and unique development. Construction on the structure will continue to progress over the coming months and we look forward to handing over the building later next year, for the benefit of the community.”
Cllr Joanna Rayner, West Suffolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Community Hubs said: “The purpose of the Mildenhall Hub is to deliver better facilities for the community of Mildenhall and the surrounding villages. It’s about health, leisure, education, library services, police and Council and advice services all working together from one site for the benefit of people who live in the area. It is about being more accessible, collectively more resilient to the financial challenges ahead and working more collaboratively to help our local communities. It is a unique and ambitious project and it is great to see the progress being made.”
The Mildenhall Hub is due to open late 2020. The next stages of this development, which is 14,000m2, will include the completion of the remaining steel framework and commencing work on the upper floors.
