Annual celebration of community sport

The 2019 Greene King West Suffolk Sports Awards is on Tuesday 15 October at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
The awards evening is an opportunity to celebrate local sporting heroes, their achievements, and the network of coaches, volunteers and family that support them.
Award categories include Unsung Hero, Sports Personality, Young Sports Personality, Coach of the Year, School of the Year and more.

Most Active Workplace
A workplace or business which promotes the benefits of participating in sport and physical activity and encourages a healthy workforce.
School of the Year
Schools should hold a ‘School Games Mark’ and/or a PE/YST Quality Mark and demonstrate active links with community sports clubs. Primary Schools should be able to demonstrate innovative use of their PE and Sport Premium to enhance provision and have a report on how the premium has been spent and its subsequent impact available on the school website. Secondary Schools should demonstrate how they support gifted and talented pupils and show how they actively engage those young people not otherwise participating in PE and School Sport.
Unsung Hero
A volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport. This could be an official, committee member, helper or anyone else who you feel deserves recognition for their dedication.
Community Volunteer of the Year
An individual who has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity.
Triumph Over Adversity
An individual, team or organisation that has overcome obstacles and challenges to achieve success or make a valued contribution to their sport. Individuals could include performers, coaches, officials, committee members or other volunteers whom you feel deserves recognition for this effort in the face of adversity.
Lifetime Achievement
A person who has contributed significantly to sport in their lifetime. This award will be made to an individual in recognition of their outstanding contribution to sport in West Suffolk over a long period of time. This award looks for someone who has shown considerable commitment to sport and can demonstrate the impact they have made to individuals and the wider community.
Individual Performance Of The Year
An individual who has made a significant achievement or an outstanding performance during the year. This could have been overcoming adversity, performing on the national stage or completing an incredible season of sport. Awarded to an individual who has achieved considerable success in their chosen sport within a competitive setting.
Coach of the Year
A coach who holds a valid national governing body coaching qualification and is committed to delivering the highest standard of coaching to their performers or to help other coaches develop. This award will be made to a coach who has supported the development and/or performance of athletes or teams and who has significantly increased or improved the sporting opportunities available.
Club of the Year
A club that has achieved proven success and an excellent reputation in the community. This could include achievements in specific areas such as junior membership, disability sport, community involvement etc. The Club of the Year Award is presented to a sports club that has made a significant impact on or contribution to the development of sport in the community.
Young Sports Personality of the Year
The following criteria will be considered when shortlisting for Young Sports Personality of the Year: An outstanding contribution towards their sport(s) and/ or their club(s) A commitment to developing themselves and others as sporting volunteers Inspiring others in the community to take part in sport and physical activity Works towards encouraging sporting participation within but not limited to their peers and the local community. An ambassador for sporting ethos.
Sports Personality of the Year
The following criteria will be considered when shortlisting for Sports Personality of the Year: An outstanding contribution towards their sport(s) and/ or their club(s) A commitment to developing themselves and others as sporting volunteers Inspiring others in the community to take part in sport and physical activity Works towards encouraging sporting participation within but not limited to their peers and the local community. An ambassador for sporting ethos.
