Free swimming during each school holiday is available for under 17-year-olds, who live in Babergh.
Please note you will need to REGISTER for free swimming via the button below.

If you already have an INSPIRE card or you have previously registered for free swimming, you do not need to re-register, as you can use the same card, and we suggest you keep this for future promotions.

Free swimming terms & conditions
  • Available for all school holiday dates during 2020
  • Only available to individuals under the age of 17 years
  • Only available for individuals who live in the catchment of Babergh District Council
  • Proof of I.D will need to be provided on the first visit
  • You will be issued with a swim card which must be presented to a member of staff at reception on each visit before use or upon request at any time by a member of our staff. You will need to use this swim card when purchasing any items from the centre
  • A photograph will be taken by a member of staff and assigned to your card on completion of registration
  • Free swimming cards are not transferrable
  • Lost swim cards must be replaced at a charge of £2.50
  • More than 3 ‘no card’ entries will result in a replacement card being purchased
  • During busy times when the band system is in operation, your swim session may be for a minimum of 60 minutes
  • The free-swimming does and will not include swim lessons
  • Children under the age of 8 must be supervised in the water at all times by a parent/adult (over the age of 18)
  • All swimmers must bring a £1 coin to use a locker which is returnable
  • You are responsible for providing to us any changes to your details
  • In the absence of any negligence or breach of any other legal duty by our staff, the use by you of any of our equipment or facilities is entirely at your own risk
  • Suitable swimwear must be worn at all times
  • We will not be responsible for any loss or injury to you to the extent that it is caused or contributed to by your unsafe or improper use of the equipment or any of the facilities
  • We reserve the right to refuse access to the facilities and suspend your use at any time if you act in a way that causes offence or distress to others; any risk, in our opinion, to anyone’s health, including yours
  • Free swimming can be withdrawn at any time without notice
  • You must adhere to the pool rules & code of conduct at all times
  • If you are removed from the pool on any one day you will not be permitted to return until the next day
  • If you are removed on a second occasion your parent or guardian will be informed
  • If you are removed on a third occasion your free swimming entitlement will be removed
  • The timetable can change without notice
  • You must not loan your membership card or permit its use to anyone else
  • Terms and conditions can be changed at any time without notice
  • Normal membership agreement terms and conditions apply
  • There is a £2 registration fee for every child
  • Free swimming is not available without a registration fee being paid
  • A parent/guardian must sign the terms and conditions on behalf of under 16’s

Who is eligible?

How old do I have to be to register for free swimming?

Children over the age of 3 years and under the age of 17 years are eligible for free swimming.

Where is free swimming being offered?

Kingfisher Leisure Centre (Sudbury) & Hadleigh Pool & Leisure during specific sessions.

When does it run?

Free swimming is available throughout 2020. Please see scheduled pool closures.

Can I just turn up?

No – you have to pre-register online to be eligible for free swimming and pay your £2.00 registration fee.

How do I sign up?

Register here. Once registration is complete, you will be able to collect you membership card at reception after we have completed your registration by taking a photo. You card will need to be scanned on entry at reception to allow free admission. Children under the age of 13 must be registered by their parents.

I registered in the summer, can I reuse my card?

Yes, if you registered and have an Inspire card you can reuse. Keep this card for future promotions.

How often can I go swimming for free?

As often as you like during the free swimming dates above! Your free swim membership card can be used every day, during the specified times.

How long can I swim for?

During busy times we will operate a band system giving you a minimum of 60 minutes swimming time.

Are there any days that I can’t swim for free?

Yes there are. The free swimming is only on specified times shown at the top of this page. You will have to pay the admission price to swim in sessions not included in this promotion. 

Will I have to queue to get into the swimming pool?

Yes, you may have to queue at the participating centres. The centres may operate a queuing system which may result in queuing outside the building. Sessions may operate during these times.

Are the fun pool sessions (fun float sessions and aqua-run sessions) included in the free swimming scheme?

Yes some are, check the timetable for accessible sessions, or the top of this page.

What about if I haven’t got a computer or access to the internet?

You can register at the centre but be aware this needs to be done prior to your first visit not on the day. A £2.00 charge is made at the point of registration.

What do I do if I lose my card?

Replacement cards are charged at £2.50.

Is my card transferable?

Afraid not. Cards are not transferable and should this occur your rights to attend free swimming will be withdrawn immediately.

Can I register all of my children for this scheme?

Yes, as long as the children are under the age of 17 and live in the Babergh District.

What if I have a Junior membership already?

If you have a membership for swimming only, we can freeze this whilst free swimming is in option, please put this request in writing.

I can’t swim - can I use other facilities in the centre for free instead?

Unfortunately not, the offer is for free swimming only.

Who do I contact if I have any questions?
My child is under 8 can they swim on their own or with friends?

No, for safety, our under 8 policy applies and children must be accompanied and supervised in the water by a responsible adult or parent.

Can I use my membership card in Mid Suffolk pools?

No – sorry your free swimming is for the Kingfisher Leisure Centre or Hadleigh Pool & Leisure only.

If I am asked to leave the pool due to bad behaviour can I come back in later in the day?

No, if you are asked to leave the pool on behaviour grounds you will not be permitted back into the water until the following days sessions. If you are excluded a second time your parents or guardians will be notified, if a third incident occurs your free swimming rights will be withdrawn and you will not be entitled to participate in free swimming this summer. Your £2.00 registration fee is not refundable.

I registered by child for free swimming and did not come, can I have refund on the £2.00 registration fee?

No refunds will be given on free swimming registration fees.
