Dan

DAN

I’m the centre manager at Brandon Leisure Centre. I started as a leisure assistant – then went onto duty officer, duty manger, operations manager, sports centre manager and now leisure centre manager.

The oportunties are here if you want to take them and you can also do all sorts of training – NPLQ, first-aid, NVQs in leisure management etc.

I was very much into martial arts and football so for me this was such a natural career choice becuase I love fitness but you don’t need to have that interest – you just need to like people.

The best part of the job is working with our customers, getting people to their personal best is very rewarding but also some customers just love the social side of being here and that’s a great, positive environment to work within.

KIM

KIM

I started as a fitness instructor in 2009 with Abbeycroft – then I did some class instructing and trained as a personal training.

I then progressed to a GP referral instructor, a coordinator and then onto pulmonary and cardiac rehab – so I’m now a qualified  Phase 4 GP referral coordinator.

I’ve benefitted from many courses and qualifications with Abbeycroft so I’m very grateful and proud of my progression.

I love seeing the start and the finish of what our GP referral clients achieve – for example a man who came to us after having a stroke had a goal to walk his daughter down the aisle and we were able to help him achieve that.

We get to work with so many different people and every day is different and that’s part of what is appealing. Abbeycroft is very flexible and understanding if you’ve got a family, so this helps a lot of us Mums return to work.

Andy

ANDY

I’m a fitness instructor and I used to be a leisure assistant. I love meeting different people, finding out what they want to do – and this inspires me to help them and improve their lifestyle.

Fitness has always been part of my life – I’m actually a professional swimmer, having qualified for Rio but was unable to go because of a heart condition – but I have my sights set on Paris 2024.

Best of my job is interacting with customers and developing a rapport – everyone knows your name here – I love that.

I also enjoy using the facilities myself – and Abbeycroft are so good at helping me to fit in my swim training as well as do my job.

Toby

TOBY

I’m a health and wellbeing practitioner at Brandon and Newmarket,  overseeing our Active Living referral scheme, dealing with all clients who are referred to us by clinicians.

It’s such a rewarding job becuase we see first hand what a difference exercise and movement can have with these clients – you can’t help but love it.

I’ve had so many opportunities during the last 10 years with Abbeycroft – having had lots of fitness roles. They’ve fnded all the qualifications I’ve taken which is excellent and I would encourage anyone who wants to do something worthwhile as a career to try it.

JOSEPH

I’m a fitness instructor at Brandon Leisure Centre and for me the best part of my job is helping people achieve their goals. I’ve always found the flexibility of the hours great to be honest – and it’s such a happy environment.

I used to work in the construction industry but I’m a people’s person so this job is perfect for me.

I would encourage anyone to give this industry a try…you won’t regret it!
