Care Homes Falls Prevention

background

West Suffolk Alliance approached Abbeycroft to provide Strength &Balance support for residents in Care Homes to identify whether the initiative would support the reduction of falls by residents, increase confidence and support care home employees.

Funding resources were identified through SNEE ICB Seasonal Pressures funding to run a short pilot
between January-March 2023. The funding secured was to create a health and wellbeing practitioner’s role to allow Abbeycroft to develop a service and deliver weekly sessions across Care Homes in West Suffolk.

The key aim was to introduce strength and balance activities to support residents and where possible
reduce falls and reduce the likelihood of falling.

Within six weeks, Abbeycroft had managed to create a project team, work with partners to identify eighteen care homes and locations where we could have the best chance of success and impact on
system pressures, create a timetable and start delivery of the programme.
