Around 100 women and girls took part in the fifth ‘Women on Wheels’ (WoW) cycle ride in Sudbury on Sunday 21st July, starting from Acton Village Hall.
The all-female WoW cycle ride, has become a popular fixture in Sudbury, inspiring women and girls of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes, and complete either the 20 or 50 mile route, taking in some beautiful Suffolk countryside and refreshment stops.
The feedback from riders was very positive with comments such as:
“Lovely ride, well signed, marshals very helpful and smiley. Thank you for my first ever sports medal in 60 +years”.
“Wonderful ride through beautiful countryside. Well organised and friendly people every step of the way, looking forward to next year!”
Local charity, St Nicholas Hospice Care, Bury St Edmunds will again receive all financial surplus from the event, which has raised over £20,000 during the past five years for the Hospice.
The event was organised by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with Suffolk County Council and St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Councillor James Reeder, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet member for Public Health and Prevention, said
“ Women on Wheels provide fantastic opportunities for women and girls to get out on their bikes in a fun and friendly atmosphere whilst hopefully providing participants with the confidence to keep cycling in the future, supporting Suffolk’s ambition to become the most active county in England. With WOW Southwold taking place this weekend (28th July) and a further two events in Kesgrave and Debenham in September there’s still plenty of time to sign up and get involved.

“It was wonderful to see so many women take part in the 5th WoW Sudbury event, helping to raise so much money for St Nicholas Hospice Care. Over the last 5 years WOW Sudbury has raised over £20,000 helping people in our care and their families throughout West Suffolk and Thetford. I’d also like to thank our wonderful team of volunteers for all their support on the day ensuring all the riders got round safely.”
There are still three other WoW events happening in Suffolk this summer; Southwold on 28th July, Kesgrave on 1st September and Debenham on 7th September.
