Our non profit distributing status means that we are not about maximising profits but about ensuring that we encourage as many people as we can to enjoy the benefits of regular sport and exercise. Through this aim we hope to improve the well being of all residents of St Edmundsbury and visitors to our facilities from outside of the Borough boundaries.
Having been formed in August 2004 and becoming operational following the transfer of Haverhill Leisure Centre from St Edmundsbury Borough Council to us in April 2005, we are a young company but have many very experienced leisure professionals within our staffing establishment.
Together with our unpaid Trustees, who are our Board of Directors, the management and staff of Abbeycroft Leisure are committed to providing an excellent service to those that visit either Bury St Edmunds or Haverhill Leisure Centre or attend any of our sports development or outreach activities.
With the reopening of the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre taking place on 20th February 2006 our immediate aim is to welcome back all of our former customers to this superbly refurbished facility and attract as many new ones as we can. The residents of Bury St Edmunds have waited 17 long months for the Centre to be available to them once again and I believe that they will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the building and equipment when they visit.
Another of our objectives is to improve the leisure offer in Haverhill and this is already evidenced by Abbeycroft Leisure's purchase of new fitness studio equipment. In the short to medium term Haverhill Leisure Centre is itself due for a major refurbishment and when this is achieved Abbeycroft Leisure will be managing two excellent and recently modernised leisure centres on behalf of St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Working in partnership generally leads to better understanding, which in our business hopefully leads to the provision of the desired services, at the right price at the right time. Our main partner is St Edmundsbury Borough Council but we are keen to work with other partners be they schools, colleges, business or public sector bodies. I look forward to hearing from any organisation that feels that through working in partnership with Abbeycroft Leisure the local population will benefit.
