The Sports Personality of the Year Award

A performer, who has made great progress over time, has achieved a vast deal or has made a big difference to a team.
• Must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2010

The Lifetime Achievement Award

The winner must have contributed significantly to sport in Suffolk during their lifetime.

The Triumph Over Adversity Award

• An individual, team or organisation that has overcome obstacles and challenges to achieve success or make a valued contribution to their sport.
• Individuals could include performers, coaches, officials, committee members or other volunteers who you feel deserves recognition for their efforts in the face of adversity.

The Coach of the Year Award

• A coach, who holds a current, recognised National Governing Body coaching qualification.
• This should be someone who is committed to delivering the highest standard of coaching to their performers and / or to helping other coaches to develop.

The Contribution to Disability Sport Award

• An individual who has gone to great lengths to raise the profile of disability sport within Suffolk.
• This could be someone who has gained funding, helped provide opportunities for disabled athletes or encouraged people with disabilities to get involved with sport.

The Young Community Volunteer of the Year Award

An individual, under the age of 18 on 30th September 2010, who has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity.

The Club of the Year Award

The Club must hold Clubmark or equivalent NGB accreditation i.e. Charter Standard Community, Swim21 etc.
• A Club that has worked hard to encourage members of the community into their sport.
• This could include specific achievements in any development area such as increased junior membership, disability sport etc.

The Senior Team of the Year Award

A Club team or team (with members aged 19 or older on August 31st 2010) that has achieved success or competed at a consistently high level throughout the year
• A team consisting of both junior and senior players is classified as a Senior Team.

The School of the Year Award

The School must have achieved ‘Active Mark’.
• A School that gives its pupils with a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality physical education and extra-curricular sport. The School should show continued commitment to School-Club links.
• Provide high quality competitive opportunities.
• Dedicated to the Gifted & Talented Programme.
• Provide opportunities for Young Leaders and community Volunteers to develop within the School environment. (Previously Primary School of the Year Award)

General Notes
• All individuals nominated must either reside in St Edmundsbury or be involved with a St Edmundsbury sports organisation.
• All organisations nominated must be based in St Edmundsbury.
• Nominees for “…….of the Year” categories will be assessed primarily on their achievements during the past year. The ‘Year’ runs from 1st September to 31st August 2010.
• Winners of the St Edmundsbury Awards will be forwarded to the Suffolk Sport Awards
Closing date 31st August at midnight
Categories will be judged by an independent panel based solely on the information provided in the nomination forms

 

Haverhill Pancake Races Raise Funds for Haiti

Families will be taking part in pancake races at Haverhill Leisure Centre on Shrove Tuesday (16 Feb 2010) to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Steeple Bumpstead triathlete Barbara Leverett has launched the 2010 St Edmundsbury Sports Awards, run by Abbeycroft Leisure, in Haverhill as she was presented with the 2009 Sports Personality of the Year Award.
