"I have been a regular user of the Haverhill Leisure Centre facilities since 1986. As a regular participant in sports and leisure facilities for many years I understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I welcome the opportunity to be involved with Abbeycroft Leisure in the provision and development of leisure activities for the benefit of existing users and to encourage new users of all age groups." "I live in Bury St Edmunds and was a regular user of the sports centre in Bury until the fire in 2004. I was introduced to the idea of becoming a Trustee by a member of staff, so I hope that my experience in industry and more recently in the public sector enables me to justify their trust. The Board members are all looking forward to getting back into the new centre which undoubtedly will be the best in Bury and feel sure that Abbeycroft Leisure can continue to improve facilities for leisure in both Haverhill and Bury in the coming years. We are particularly keen to work with other groups outside of the sports centres to help develop sport throughout West Suffolk." David Howells (Vice Chairman and Deputy Principal at West Suffolk College) |
"I have been a regular early morning user of Bury Leisure Centre for several years and when the search for trustees was on, I put myself forward. Then the fire occurred. I am really looking forward to being involved in the services the centre offers. My now grown up children learnt to swim in the pool and literally hundreds of the pupils I taught in local schools have enjoyed the facilities. I am particularly interested in the benefits of fitness for health and in the wide idea of well-being, which is not just physical. I am also interested, in a crumbly kind of way, in the use of IT in leisure administration and education." Ian Runnacles (Retired Teacher) |

| "I have worked for Barclays since I left school. I am also the Treasurer of LAMP H, the special needs charity based in Haverhill. I have also been known to be the DJ at their in house discos! I am 1st team captain for Haverhill Ladies Hockey Club. I am a regular use of Haverhill Leisure Centre, ideally 3-4 times per week and I am addicted to RPM. I saw Abbeycroft as an ideal opportunity for me to be involved in running a company that I had a genuine interest in and that would benefit the community. As a result of being a trustee I have gained experience that is helpful when dealing with Bank clients who run their own businesses and naturally my exposure to the corporate market means that I can add value to Abbeycroft, not least in respect of customer service." Tina Bunch (Corporate Business Manager, Barclays Bank) |
"I have been involved in various aspects of sport and leisure for many years.
I have a particular interest in widening participation to as many people as possible and believe that Abbeycroft Leisure should become an inclusive community facility that helps people to understand the benefits of lifelong activity." Jacqui Phipps (Curriculum Support Manager, Connexions) |
"I have been a Headteacher for 6 years and was previously a Deputy Head and Head of Sixth Form in Lowestoft. I was also a Finance Director of a small training company and leader of a District Council. Before the fire I was a regular user of the Bury Centre with the family and believe that I can bring a commitment to the development of leisure services for young people in the area. I also believe that I can demonstrate a working understanding of partnership between private and public sectors. My hopes for the business future are that it improves access and availability of leisure across the area, and by dynamic and vigorous approaches improves profitability ensuring expansion." Howard Lay (Headteacher at Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College) |
