British Olympic Passport Scheme
The Olympic Passport Scheme was established in 1996 and is designed to offer exclusive benefits to athletes. Olympic Passport Holders will have been nominated on to the scheme by their National Governing Body of Sport as a potential future Olympian or Paralympian. The Scheme operates on two levels Gold and Silver:
Gold: Prospective Olympians/Paralympians for the Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010 Games
Silver: Prospects for future Olympic/Paralympic Games

In the lead up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, St.Edmundsbury is aiming to draw maximum benefit from opportunities presented by the Games. A key priority for Abbeycroft Leisure is to help up and coming Olympic and Paralympic athletes reach their potential and to inspire a new generation of young people to make sport a central part of their lives.
The introduction of the Olympic Passport Scheme at Abbeycroft Leisure, in association with the British Olympic Association (BOA), will offer free access to selected Abbeycroft Leisure sport and leisure facilities for future Olympic athletes.
Abbeycroft Leisure has signed up to the British Olympic Association (BOA) Passport Scheme, therefore enabling Olympic and Paralympic athletes in St.Edmundsbury on the BOA Gold and Silver membership to gain free access to selected Abbeycroft Leisure sport and leisure facilities for training purposes.
To be eligible for the British Olympic passport Scheme an applicant must be a resident of St.Edmundsbury and meet the following criteria;
- Member of the BOA Passport Scheme nominated by their National Governing Body for the Gold and Silver membership.
- World Class Performance Athlete – approved by National Governing Body
- Potential Athlete – approved by National Governing Body
- Home National Institute Athlete
Once nominated on to the scheme, athletes are issued with a membership card which entitles the athlete to a variety of benefits provided by the British Olympic Association in conjunction with our partners. Membership is reviewed on an annual basis by the National Governing Body.
